Stars' next opponent in the U14 North Wales Coast Cup are Amlwch Yellows who are in the Angelsey League. To date their opponents have played 13 Won 12. Scored 144 goals and conceeded 10. They are top of the U14's League, so all in all it looked like Stars had a real tough match ahead.
Stars started the match a little bit daunted by the size of some of Amlwch players, but it was the grit of Casey and Alex D that we didnt conceed early on in the match. After 10 mins and a few warnings to the Amlwch players on their challenges, Stars started to settle and get into the match, but it was the tackle the whole world have been debating since Kompany's sending off that saw the Ref begin to stamp his authority on the game, a two footed challenge that our player narrowly avoided was followed very quickly by a Amlwch player being sent off.
Stars began to dominate Amlwch in their usual quick, fast flowing style of football and we had two clear chances to score but they werent taken well enough. As well as having a goal disallowed we werent following up on the dropped balls by the keeper. What we did take well was the corner which changed the game. Nay lifting the ball over the players in the box to find Owain just near the back post, Owains timing was perfect and he half volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Stars were ecstatic !!!!
We were piling pressure on Amlwch and had them pushed into their own half for many periods and showed great courage in riding some tackles and winning the ball. Cameron had to come off after he was pushed into Azzy whilst shielding the ball. Alex D moved to Centre Back, Owain into midfield and Jordan on to play left midfield.
We ended the first half on a high and in control. No changes at half time.
Stars were eager to get back on the pitch and began the second half where they left off. They continued to play 1 or 2 touch football when they could but also showed great skill to beat the older side by clever thinking and great footwork. They kept very disiplined when being fouled and became more confident as the match went on, they stuck to the game plan.
Dan was brought on for Alex and immediately made an impact, nearly scoring after 30 seconds on the pitch. His fresh legs brought a lift to midfield and Stars began to pile on the pressure, creating many chances (or half chances) to score. But it was again our ever dependable set pieces that brought on the next goal. Nay taking the corner, was hastily cleared by Amlwch but only to Dan who shot first time into the back of the net. Amlwch seemed to start to lose control and had a number of players booked or warned but Stars took advantage of this and started to really play some terrific football, Nay on two occassions beat the defender and found himself one on one with the goalkeeper, on both occassions rounded him, his first shot was cleared by a defender and his second shot into the side netting. Had he scored them the match would of been all over for Amlwch. Amlwch took hold of the game for about 10 mins and we were put under pressure and lost a little bit of shape, but Azzy in goal was always quick off his line and beating the Striker to the long ball sent to him.
Jackson replaced Josh who had worked so hard supporting the midfield and playing behind Nay. Jackson tightened up the midfield and we began to take shape again. The boys were begining to tire and the final whistle was eagerly awaited.
Stars ended the match 2-0 and are into the 1/4's of the U14 North Wales Coast Cup.
Overall Stars played well against the older Amlwch side. We stuck to our way of playing and continued to battle hard for the 70 mins of the match. At times Stars played above their years and showed that football is all about clever thinking and skills, not the physical side.
